BROADCAST COUNCIL TO DECIDE ON KARADZIC

BELGRADE, June 9, 2005 – Goran Karadzic, member of the Serbian Broadcast Agency Council, was recommended not to participate in the work of the Council until the investigation against him was officially closed. District Court in Kragujevac has launched an investigation of Karadzic, former chairman of the business association’s assembly “Serbian Television Network” and Predrag Petakovic, former director of RTV Kragujevac, under suspicion of embezzlement. The Council announced that they did not want to make any prejudice to the investigation outcome, adding that Karadzic had notified the members of the Council in writing that he would not participate in the Council’s meeting. Karadzic was nominated by the Vojvodina Parliament. Under the Broadcast Act, member of the Council from Vojvodina has the right to veto. The work of the Council and Broadcast Agency is important for regulating the situation of the electronic media.
