NEW WALKOUTS IN BBC

LONDON, June 2, 2005 – Unions of the British media house BBC warn of new walkouts of the staff. Unions Amicus and Bectu noted that the proposals of the BBC management and Director General Mark Thompson were not enough, demanding new talks and warranties from the management on their plan to cut 3.780 jobs. Should the negotiations fail, and the agreement not reached, the unions would organize new strike, said the Bectu secretary, Jeremy Dir. The last walkout was organized on May 23, 2005, with estimated figure of 13 to 15 thousand workers protesting over the planned 4.000 job cuts out of total of 27.000 employed in this media outlet.
