SENTENCED FOR ASSAULT ON JOURNALIST

VALJEVO, May 21, 2005 – Nikola Markovic from Rubribreza near Lajkovac was sentenced to three months imprisonment for assaulting the journalist. District Court in Valjevo has reversed the ruling of the Lajkovac Municipal Court from May 28, 2004, that sentenced Markovic to one month of imprisonment for violent behavior, that is, assault on Branko Puzovic, correspondent of Belgrade daily “Vecernje Novosti” from Kolubara district. The journalist was assaulted in the café in Lajkovac in April 2003. According to statements, Markovic was displeased with Puzovic's writings on the private business of Markovic family in Rubribreza.
