DUSAN BOGAVAC TO JOURNALIST OF JUZNE VESTI

Belgrade, October 21, 2013 (Danas) - Chief Editor and journalist of the internet portal "Juzne vesti" Predrag Blagojevic is rewarded for journalist's ethics and courage in 2013 with the "Dusan Bogavac" award.

The jury said that investigative journalism had been the focus of the "Juzne vesti" portal from the outset, particularly the reporting about corruption, which is, alongside the current affairs, the essence of informative segment of this media.

The newsroom, led by Blagojevic, has managed to win its financial independence, which has enabled journalists to investigate topics from the citizens' point of view, putting public officials under the magnifying glass whenever they deem needed, says in the jury's statement.

According to the jury, directly affected by the reporting of this media, in last year only, several directors of public companies and institutions in Nis have been discharged from their duties. For investigative texts about embezzlement in public procurement procedures in Nis Airport, "Juzne vesti" was the winner of the Award for investigative journalism by NUNS and US Embassy in 2010.

For the second year in a row, journalists Sandra Savic and Nadezda Gace were nominated for the Award, together with the team of journalists of "Insider", portal "Njuznet", Center for Investigative Journalism and columnists Petar Lukovic and Svetislav Basara.
